Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that Federal, State, Navy and local environmental regulations, policies and requirements are implemented and adhered to within the Shipyard’s area of responsibility.
  • You will exercise both administrative and technical supervision over subordinates. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets priorities, prepares/tracks schedules and ensures timely accuracy and completion of work.
  • You will consult, discuss and advise the Environment Division Head on assignment of resources to projects and programs.
  • You will carry out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates
  • You will establish, justify and submit multi-fiscal year budgetary requirements, works to procure contracts, equipment and consumables on time, and documents/tracks expenditures.
  • You will provide environmental oversight in the execution to protect and minimize risk to the Shipyard and Navy, document discrepancies and ensure that corrective actions are accomplished to mitigate or eliminate the discrepancy.
  • You will generate assessments and written correspondence as required.
  • You will supervise and mentor environmental representative(s) on responsibilities, work assignments, surveillances, vessel and shop tours, and any day shift issues to follow up on.  Train/brief the organization on the environmental requirement.
  • You will be responsible to collaborate and solve problems at your level, work with various levels of management, provide recommendations and execute changes.
  • You will be responsible to supervise environmental representative(s) on responsibilities, work assignments, surveillances, vessel and shop tours, and any day shift issues to follow up on.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning, coordinating, or implementing policies and procedures for vital safety, health and environmental programs in an industrial environment to ensure compliance with federal or state regulatory requirements.
