Duties

Help
  • You will determine the correct segment to which mail is addressed and distribute into principal classifications.
  • You will certify and operate electronic /automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems and other postal and mail center equipment.
  • You will ensure all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all USPS, DON/DON, regulations policies, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Postal Affairs.
  • You will examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packaging and labeling requirements.
  • You will properly store mail items in vehicles and ensure vehicles are protected at all times and unattended vehicles are secured and locked.
  • You will receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail.

  • You "may" be coded as "key" and as such may be required to be removed from your military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
  • You may be required to lift and carry weights up to 70 lbs.
  • You will be required to wear safety shoes.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing a full range of mail and filing procedures including receiving, sorting, delivering, and directing the distributing of incoming and outgoing mail. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Operating electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision-making scales and other postal and mail center equipment. 2) Examining all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, and compliance with packing and labeling requirements 3) Determining the correct organizational segment to which mail is addressed and distributing into principal classifications by identification mail code numbers, zip codes, locations, or similar routing instruction. 4) Operating vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch mail.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform basic mail and file processing and control procedures. Examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Processing and handling mail by applying general policies and regulations; 2) Delivering correspondence and mail; 3) Processing mail by operating automated machinery; and 4) Maintaining records and files

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-05: Successful completion of four years above high school.
