Duties

Help
  • You will produce finished products according to specifications within established time frames.
  • You will determine the proper grade, size, and types of lumber or special related materials required for projects.
  • You will plan and complete work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying complex building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other guides and codes.
  • You will operate equipment in a safe manner, applying established safety rules and regulations to minimize minor violations and to avoid major violations due to employee error or negligence.
  • You will apply a full range of carpentry methods in accomplishing complex tasks requiring construction of irregular sizes, shapes, and angles with precise fits and accurate dimensions.
  • You will select the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed at the worksite and determines how or what repairs need to be made.
  • You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You may be required to work at a job site or location other than a permanently assigned location.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: includes 1) Concrete forming, lifting houses, move houses 2) All phase of construction, forming column walls, desks, extension form work, placing steel bars 3) Hanging commercial doors, dry walls, laying flooring, complete residential homes, all phases of construction.

Physical Effort: The work is performed in a shop and at the job site. The work may involve standing for extended periods, considerable bending, kneeling, stooping and climbing on ladders/scaffolding and rooftops. The work also requires strenuous physical exertion when handling heavy and bulky materials such as, plywood, framing members, and other building and construction materials. The work may involve lifting and moving materials up to 40 lbs, unassisted, and occasionally lifting or moving heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.

Working Conditions: The work may involve exposure to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment (e.g. saws). May be exposed to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. The work may subject incumbent to cuts, bruises, and contusions and may be performed in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may be dusty and dirty. Injuries may occur in lifting heavy pieces of lumber or equipment; cuts and bruises in using hand tools and equipment; more serious injuries in operating power tools.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.

The incumbent may work overtime and/or be "called back".
