Help
  • Serve as principal staff advisor on all matters relating to the vulnerabilities and threats to computer systems.
  • Develop the correspondence security countermeasures necessary to protect sensitive and classified information.
  • Review existing or proposed networks systems; diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex problems.
  • Interpret general policies and apply guidance to projects being implemented for the purpose of developing, reviewing, evaluating, and approving network project actions.
  • Analyze and define network requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance on network equipment and system problems relative to future requirements.
  • Identify and report trends indicating the need to expand network facilities beyond existing capabilities
  • Evaluate proposals regarding networks services; conduct feasibility studies and make recommendations relative to optimum, most responsive, and cost effective utilization of network services.
  • Performing Contracting Officer Representative functions for the full range of IT and communications contracts.
  • Perform supervisory duties, which includes; planning work to be accomplished by subordinates; assigning work based on priorities, requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain at a minimum a Secret security clearance.
  • May be required to work overtime and may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training to obtain and maintain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoD Publication 8570.01-M.
  • Requires IA Technical Level II and IA Managerial Level II certifications be attained within 6 months of assignment to the position and maintained thereafter.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or similar certification is required for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Basic Experience requirement AND the education and/or Specialized Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. BASIC REQUIREMENT:

Attention to Detail-review procedures to protect against unauthorized access to systems or networks.
Customer Service-coordinate network security requirements with customers to ensure they are met.
Oral Communication-inform management of progress toward meeting network security objectives.
Problem Solving-conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities.

AND

Specialized Experience:

GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems security programs.

GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes Installing, configuring, and operating network security devices. Researching and identifying information technology system vulnerabilities. Identifying potential security risks; and isolating potential incidents with a recommended solution. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes applying network operations, security and connectivity procedures to resolve IT issues. Experience evaluating network operations and capabilities, and implementing a security awareness training program for computer users to meet compliance requirements.

OR

Education:

GS-09: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-11: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, in Information Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
