About the Position: Assists with the Endangered Species Program for Fort Bragg property under jurisdiction of the Installation Range Officer.
Assists in the development and recommendations for short and long range integrated endangered species management plans for habitat and population.
Conducts endangered species and non-game surveys and studies to evaluate habitat and estimate population.
Assists with the review of proposed training activities and identifies potential endangered species impact.
Conducts endangered species orientations to other installation activities (Provost Marshal Office, military units, housing area mayors, Directorate of Personnel and Community Activities, etc.)
Prepares biological evaluations/assessments and reviews environmental impact statements on installation range projects or activities that may impact on endangered species or habitat.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is approved for Hazardous Duty Pay and the incumbent is eligible for environmental differential pay when assigned to perform duties in an area approved for environmental differential pay.
This position requires the incumbent to be able to utilize an alpha/numeric keyboard in conjunction with automated office equipment (e.g., word processor, typewriter, computer hardware and software).
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Wildlife Biologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Managing and protecting habitats of endangered species that would interfere with training or impact on the environment; AND 2) Experience providing support to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services or like agency; AND 3) Recognizing aspects of programs, conducting surveys, and/or presenting data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study].
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
