Duties

Help

  • Deliver outdoor activities, instructional classes, trips and outings, outdoor adventure activities, and special events to the Air Force community in a safe and enjoyable manner.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in specialized areas of outdoor recreation, such as rock climbing, whitewater rafting, or backpacking.
  • Ensure that all necessary equipment is available and in good working order for activities and events.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment and report any issues to the Programs Manager.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, providing clear instructions, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and events, including attendance, equipment usage, and incident reports.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and standards related to outdoor recreation activities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and comply with all Air Force appearance and conduct standards.
  • Support the overall mission and goals of the Air Force Outdoor Recreation program by participating in staff meetings, attending training sessions, and contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
  • May be required to work uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and family days.
  • May operate a government vehicle on or off the military installation.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Attend all formal and informal training to this position as required by the supervisor or higher headquarters.
  • Position requires favorable completion of a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP). Incumbent is subject to random drug screen.

  • May be required to work uncommon tour of duty to include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and family days.
  • May operate a government vehicle on or off the military installation. Valid Driver's License and clean DMV record required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • This position has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP). Incumbent is subject to random drug screen. Must also complete a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both, orally and in writing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience in outdoor recreation activities, with a focus on at least one specialty area (e.g., rock climbing, whitewater rafting, backpacking).
  • Training and certification in relevant areas of expertise.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills. Physical ability to participate in a variety of outdoor recreation activities.
  • Willingness to complete on-the-job training and maintain certification in relevant areas of expertise.
  • Must meet Air Force appearance and conduct standards.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and be able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both, orally and in writing.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
