Help
  • Make decisions to resolve unexpected problems or complicated issues as they occur during investigations based on program expertise and judgement in the areas of investigative techniques, methods, and approaches.
  • Provide guidance on OPM programs and application of statutes and regulations to monitor the course of the investigation.
  • Maintain liaison contacts with investigative and legal personnel across many agencies.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a position with the Office of Inspector General (OIG) as a law enforcement officer. PLEASE NOTE: a) This requirement does not apply to persons eligible for veterans preference; b) An individual who is 37 years of age or older may be re-employed as a Federal law enforcement officer in the OIG if the individual has had prior coverage under the special Federal law enforcement retirement plan; c) An SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, must be submitted which shows your current grade and competitive civil service status (if you have been or are a Federal employee). If you are 37 years of age or older and have been previously covered under the special law enforcement retirement plan, please submit an SF-50 which reflects this coverage in addition to your current SF-50.

For the GS13: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level (or equivalent) which includes: 1) interviewing witnesses to obtain additional information related to assigned investigations; 2) preparing reports about investigative results; 3) conducting investigative tasks including obtaining and examining documents and evidence, interviewing witnesses, executing search warrants, or performing surveillance.

Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS 13 level.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
