This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Kingsridge Federal Records Center. The incumbent supervises subordinate Archives Technicians in the Reference and/or Transfer and Disposition functions of the Records Center Program (RCP) who provide reference related service for all Federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, subject to the NR Reimbursable Program.

As a SUPERVISORY ARCHIVES SPECIALIST, you will:

  • Supervise a subordinate staff consisting of archives technicians GS-4 through GS-7. Is responsible for the quality and quantity of work produced by these employees directly under their supervision. Either personally or as delegated to other RCP employees, assure that the subordinate staff duties are accomplished.
  • Conduct staff meetings to convey and discuss suggestions, changes and new policies or procedures, which affect unit operations. Provide information generated by these meetings to higher level management.
  • Responsible for daily workload assignments to assign, process, and review. This is prescribed to subordinate technicians who ensure accomplishment of work according to these guidelines.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Some of the work is performed in an office setting, but a significant portion is performed in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, and lifting boxes of records is required.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-09, you must have one-year specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level that is directly related to the position and has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is:

Leading a small component of a team, program, or project; AND
Communicating with customers internally and externally to provide information and resolve issues; AND
Applying and researching rules, regulations, policies, and practices to gather facts, and draw conclusions and/or make recommendations.

OR
EDUCATION
: You may qualify with a master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work OR a LL.B. or J.D. if related; (attach a copy of your transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit)

OR
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. The total percentage of education and experience must equal 100% to qualify.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07level for 52 weeks.
