This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Department of the Defense Prevention Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Serve as Data Scientist for US Army Integrated Prevention Advisory Group (I-PAG) at the headquarters level and provides data support to assigned I-PAG locations.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Army’s prevention workforce in a highly specialized area of public health / prevention science.
  • Support prevention data efforts as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide technical expertise (e.g., data integration through statistical software, tool development, and technical assistance) to inform requests for information comprehensive needs assessments, and comprehensive integrated primary prevention plans.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal and external partners to provide support to public health studies, prevention research, and evaluation projects.
  • Represent the Army at professional, DoD, and other government agency scientific and technical meetings.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement Data Scientist (Integrated Prevention) (PREV WF):

  1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: Conducting statistical analysis using statistical software (e.g. R, SAS); Providing data expertise to support aspects such as design, collection, analysis, synthesis, and interpretation; Conducting a literature review; Presenting findings to leaders; Collaborating with partners internal and external to your organizations to enhance research and/or public health practice; and Producing information products (e.g., scientific presentation, technical report, manuscript) or any other medium/format used to disseminate methods and findings.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.   • Within six months of employment, must complete DoD SPARX Knowledge Part 1 and 2, training specific to prevention activities being delivered, and complete all requirements to obtain the OSD credentialing program for prevention personnel (D-CPPP) credential.
