Summary

This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Office of Currency Manufacturing - Deputy Plant Manager WCF. As a Plate Printer (Intermediate), you will receive intaglio production print training to be able to perform work utilizing a variety of complex and high-speed plate printing presses. After successful completion of the training period, you will be asked to operate a press while performing all the duties included in the previous training.

Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the WG-3. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Make press ready to print in accordance with established procedures.
  • Install and position plates or cylinders; secures and checks materials need such as denominated paper, inks, rigging boards, wiping rolls, etc., paying particular attention to those specialized materials needed for NCD and IMP printing.
  • Lubricate press as necessary, load press, make all adjustments of peripheral devices and attachments.
  • Operate the press, stopping and starting it as necessary. Continuously observe production of the press and makes all single and multiple operating adjustments including the impression and plate mechanisms, wiping and polishing devices, ink fountains, feeder and delivery devices, etc. Use visual inspection and Nata Save inspection equipment, if installed, make frequent detailed examinations of printing quality, and take immediate corrective action to minimize spoilage.
  • Stop and secure the press at the end of the production run or shift and ensures the security of all stock. As required, make reports of press operation and production data.
  • Perform transactions as required in accordance with established BEP accountability procedures.

Physical Requirements: The work requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching during the operations and maintenance of the press. The incumbent is exposed to potential skin irritations from the inks and solvents used and there is inherent risk of injury involved with operating large machinery with many moving parts.

The incumbent lifts & carries supplies and materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Performs regular and recurring assignments requiring physical effort. Lifting wiping rolls, paper, etc., weighing up to 50 pounds.

Vision requirements are use of both eyes, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Hearing required (aid permitted).

  • Weekend work and overtime, if applicable, will be scheduled when needed based on production requirements as determined by Management.
