Duties

Help

  • Perform stereoscopic color fundus photography.
  • Perform color fundus photography following reading center imaging protocols.
  • Perform fundus autofluorescence imaging.
  • Identify deviations in normal anatomy seen on an ocular image.
  • Work directly with an ophthalmologist to make a diagnostic plan for fluorescein angiography.
  • Responsible for transfering digital ocular images to external optical media (CD, DVD, flash drive, etc.).
  • Responsible for entering and update patient information into an electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic
    health record (EHR).
  • Describe the phases of a fundus fluorescein angiogram.
  • Use appropriate ophthalmic terms to describe ocular lesions, landmarks, or locations inside the
    eye.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Photographer (Medical/Ophthalmic), GS-1060 position at the GS-09 level you must have one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Working directly with an ophthalmologist to make a diagnostic plan for fluorescein angiography. Experience in operating standard and specialized camera and film processing equipment.

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

How you will be evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be assessed on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics):

  • 1. Ability to operate the standard ophthalmic imaging tools and digital imaging software used to document and diagnosis ophthalmic conditions for clinical care and research.
  • 2.Knowledge of ophthalmic medical terminology, anatomy & physiology of the human eye, common ocular pathology, the ocular circulatory system, and specialized ophthalmic photographic techniques.
  • 3.Ability to communicate using ophthalmic clinical imaging language with patients and research subjects of all ages.
  • 4.Ability to operate multiple software programs and applications on a personal computer for access to digital imaging databases and electronic medical records.
