Duties

Help
  • Represents the USMA Cadet Collegiate Equestrian Team as the Supervisory Sports Specialist (Equestrian) and subject matter expert under the oversight of the Officers in Charge (OICs).
  • Serves as first-line supervisor of subordinates and provides a full range of supervisory functions to include performance management, employee relations, employee recognition, dispute resolution, training and development, team building.
  • In a recreational setting, develops and implements equestrian training programs for riders of all ages and skill levels. Provides instruction on horsemanship, riding techniques, methods of regulating movement, grooming, and care of horses.
  • Schedules and oversees practice sessions, competitions, tournaments, and team meetings. Enforces safety measures and internal controls relative to security of equipment, and accident prevention.
  • Operates equine program in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations which govern the sport and associated activities.

  • This is an Army Drug Testing position; the incumbent must sign a DA Form 5019-R as a condition of employment and shall be subject to periodic and random urinalysis drug testing in accordance with AR 215-3 and EO 12564.
  • Satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks IAW AR 215-3, Chapter 2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation with childcare checks and physical examination.
  • Must be able to continually stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, push, and bend. Must be able to lift of move objects up to 75 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule which may include nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and/or overtime in support of academic and cyclic training schedules.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors during different types of weather conditions ranging from hot and/or humid to extreme sub-freezing temperature.
  • Must be able to work on a range of different terrains to include trails, pastures, sand, clay, straw, and concrete.
  • Must possess and maintain a state issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • This position requires frequent travel to locations on and off post.
  • Possess and maintain a membership with the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), the Professional Horseman’s Association (PHA) and the US Equestrian Federation (USEF) within 6 months of employment.
  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position. All GS and NAF employees holding FLEX positions are eligible to apply for this position.

Qualifications

  1. Must possess three (3) years' experience in equestrian facility or program management (i.e., athletic or recreational, high school, resort, or similar) including coaching or other leadership/supervisory experience.
In addition, candidates must possess:

1. A bachelor's degree or higher in a related field, such as equine studies, sports administration, or sports psychology

OR

2. Experience managing or administrating an equestrian sports program which included providing instruction in various horsemanship, training, and riding techniques; equine care (to include basic health conditions, equine behavior and anatomy); athletic conditioning; and developing teams for competitions and tournaments.

Highly Preferred Criteria:
  1. Experience managing or directing an equestrian program at the collegiate or equivalent level.

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is in the Government's interest.

Pay-Band (NF or CY) Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a pay-banded position.
  • Sunday premium pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. If authorized, only regular (full-time, part-time, limited tenure and seasonal) employees may be paid Sunday premium pay. When authorized, Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday). Sunday premium will be paid at the rate of 25% of the basic rate for all hours of non-overtime, when any part of the scheduled tour of duty is performed on Sunday (to a maximum of 8 hours per Sunday).
  • Night differential may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. When authorized, night differential will be paid at the rate of 10% basic rate for hours of non-overtime work performed between 1800-0600.
Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives will not be paid.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
