Serve as a senior scientist and team lead to conceive and conduct pioneering research of outstanding scope, difficulty, and complexity that is critical to the Agency.
Serve as a nationally and internationally recognized expert, researcher, and scientist for broad research that focuses on improving various diagnostic tests for vector-borne disease by state health departments, other national and international laboratories, and private industry (through technology transfer).
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work, when necessary.
Determine areas for initiating and planning research activities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: with arbovirus molecular and/or immunological diagnostic, research, and surveillance; supporting national and international stakeholders on arbovirus diagnostics; developing research projects related to arbovirus and integrating laboratory and surveillance data.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
