Duties

Help
  • You will perform engine company inspections and building pre-plans, looking for infractions and the locations of local alarm and sprinkler systems, power, water, and gas shutoffs, noting all hazardous storage or conditions inside and outside.
  • You will perform station, grounds, apparatus, and equipment maintenance.
  • You will carry out evacuation drills, reset sprinkler and local alarm systems.
  • You will participate in public education activities.
  • You will serve as driver/operator of fire (pumper) apparatus, aerial ladder truck, heavy rescue vehicle, hazardous material truck/trailer, etc.
  • You will respond as an integral member of the hazardous material team at the hazardous material technician level.
  • You will respond to all medical emergencies as an Emergency Medical Technician.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

  • You must possess and maintain current DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard certifications: Firefighter I and II. , HazMat Awareness, and HazMat Operations at the time of application.
  • You must obtain and maintain current DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard certifications: Driver or Operation (D/O) Pumper, D/O Aerial, and HazMat Technician within 12 months of hire.
  • You must possess and maintain a National Registry or State Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT or EMT) certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid Class B Non Commercial Driver's License and government drivers license within 120 days of hire.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector inspecting facilities and structures for fire hazards and fire protection deficiencies, interpreting code regulations and directives, conducting troubleshooting as required for facilities, AND providing training on fire safety practices and procedures.

This position requires rotating shift work. Required to work a 72-hour work week and subject to recall during off duty hours.

Work is sometimes performed outside in foul weather or at night. Firefighting involves a wide variety of environmental and situations that place the firefighter under great stress and exposure to extreme temperatures that are hostile and unfamiliar.

Hazardous environmental and working condition require the use of specialized protective clothing. Medical care functions may cause exposure to communicable diseases, i.e., HIV, Hepatitis A,B,C, etc. and unhealthful, unsanitary conditions, while treating patients/victims.

Recruitment and Relocation Incentives may or may not be authorized. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may or may not be authorized.
