About the Position: This position is with theU.S. Army Corps Of Engineers, Galveston Engineering & Construction Division, Geospatial Branch located in Galveston, Texas. This vacancy will be filled either at the GS-09 or GS-11 grade level with the full performance level of GS-12.

Duties

Help
  • Generates final maps from survey data using HYPACK, GIS, CADD, Pix4D, ContextCapture or other required software.
  • Performs tasks following field surveys such as reducing field notes, updating metadata, editing echo soundings, and applying tide corrections.
  • Coordinates with project engineers and managers to determine the best application of survey principles and procedures for data collection and presentation.
  • Utilizes knowledge of field data collection using the Global Positioning System (GPS), production and use of GPS data dictionaries, photogrammetry, mapping and computers to plan, coordinate and accomplish work.
  • Utilizes advanced State of the Art software and hardware including Autodesk Civil3D, computer workstations, high performance plotters and a Multiuser Geodatabase Data Model in the production of Geospatial products.
  • Stores, maintains, retrieves, and analyzes data on a district Projectwise system and EGIS System.
  • Incumbent must be able to keep current with new survey technology as equipment, software, and associated technology changes.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. This series is a one grade interval series progressive from GS-09, to GS-10 to GS-11 and to the Full Performance level of GS-12. Management will be making a selection at the GS-09 or GS-11 levels ONLY. Specialized experience is typically required at the next lower level, however, due to the line of progression in the organization and to allow maximum ability to apply the experience is being credited at the second lower level.

GS-09

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating multiple land, airborne, and hydrographic survey and post processing software systems to process survey data from one of the following sensors: full motion video, photogrammetry, multi-beam SONAR, single-beam SONAR, and/or LiDAR. AND 2) Calculate quantities using a variety of methods and programs such as the average end area or surface to surface with computer programs. AND 3) Preparing tabulations of quantities based upon surveys taken to support preparation of plans and specifications and pay estimates. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

GS-11

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating multiple hydrographic survey hardware systems to include Z-boats, multi-beam, single beam, and side scan sonar. AND 2) Providing technical assistance and guidance to management and staff personnel on the application of survey specific software such as Pix4D, ContextCapture, Hypack and/or POSPac. AND 3) Calculating hydrographic and topographic survey data to complete various cartographic products using 3D data processing software suites such as Hypack, CADD, and ArcPro. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
