Duties

Help

Engineering Technician: DX-0802-04

  • Uses training and expertise to provide expert leadership and support to optimization, repair and maintenance of directorate facilities.
  • Advises on all matters involving heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) with emphasis on direct digital controls (DDC), commissioning/balancing, life cycle costing, maintenance requirements and designs. Serves as HVAC DDC technical point of contact (POC) for all facility projects to include incorporating HVAC DDC designs into lab reconfigurations.
  • Facility Related Design Reviews. Participates in the planning, design review, construction start-up coordination, construction coordination, project completion, and acceptance inspections. Applies knowledge of other disciplines to determine coordination required to ensure all design considerations have been addressed. Coordinates projects with engineers in other disciplines or with architects.
  • Work Order Management. Advises Work Order Manager and Facility Design Team in managing cost, schedule and
    scope of all facility related projects. Coordinates with parties affected by construction to minimize negative impact on daily
    operations. Assists in maintaining a strategic portfolio of facility requirements and infrastructure needs. Routinely
    apprises the Lead Facility Engineer of status of projects. Recommends professional technical solutions to facility related
    problems with regards to the operations and maintenance of facilities. Conducts special projects and studies. Represents
    directorate at process improvement events directed at any aspect of facility project management. Plans, organizes, and
    coordinates activities of senior leaders, technical personnel, and functional specialists concerning process improvements
    and corrective actions to inspection/audit. Provides guidance and recommendations to management to resolve findings
    from audits and inspections.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Technical and Medical Support Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10/DX-03, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Certification:
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
