As a Supervisory Accountant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Review analytical reports and organize factual data for the development of directives prescribing procedures, including manuals covering highly specialized subject matters. Evaluate data in financial reports to determine trends in meeting accomplishment of measurable goals.
  • Advise and guide accountants in the interpretation of accounting systems and issues and in the implementation of procedures and programs. Resolve questions as to the methods of treating unusual accounting transactions, the implementation of new accounting systems and procedures and solutions for problems associated with new legislation or policy. Coordinate the accounting practices of accountants to ensure consistent accounting and reporting.
  • Direct changes or revisions in procedures and policy in order to meet program goals and enhance customer satisfaction. Interface with auditors, both GSA and independent, concerning financial audits and the annual financial statement audit. Review audit plan and schedule for conducting audits. Create action plans to resolve material weaknesses or significant deficiencies discovered during the audit and ensure timely completion.
  • Provide ongoing advice and support to subordinates regarding divisional operations and activities, and the resolution of problems presented by subordinate personnel. Work to maximize the potential of subordinates to achieve organizational goals and sound business results. Identify, align and allocate resources to meet divisional goals and priorities.

The GS-14 salary range starts at $122,198 per year. Locality will be determined based on duty location.

Basic Requirements:  You must have either A or B, or C:

  1. Degree in accounting
  2. Degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law
  3. A combination of college level education and experience.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is professional accounting experience that included the following: providing sound and authoritative technical guidance related to financial/accounting issues, programs and/or systems; assessing and participating in new system development and system enhancements to improve program effectiveness; and advising on the implementation of accounting procedures and programs.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be scored on the questions you answer during the application process, which will measure your possession of the following competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities. Your responses to these questions must be supported by your resume or your score may be lowered.

  1. Skill in conducting management and internal control reviews to generate and develop new concepts and procedures as they relate to accounting.
  2. Knowledge of the theories, practices, methods, and techniques of accounting, as well as organizational and program practices, policies, and functions sufficient to analyze accounting systems.
  3. Ability to develop specifications for establishing or revising complex financial and statistical reporting systems and procedures.
  4. Ability to analyze trends, variances, financial ratios, etc., in order to interpret financial issues and concerns relating to profitability, liquidity, operating effectiveness, etc.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to mentor, train and supervise employees.
