As a Sports Specialist (Sport Information Coordinator) GS-0030-7/9, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans to promote the institution's athletic programs and student-athletes.
  • Create and maintain statistical records, historical data, and performance metrics for all athletic teams and student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with department personnel to support fundraising and promotional efforts related to athletics.
  • Liaise with conference and national athletic organizations to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and statistical standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in sports information and media relations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

GS-07:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. One year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Providing support for special events, tournaments, and championship games hosted by the institution; Creating and maintaining statistical records, historical data, and performance metrics for all athletic teams and student-athletes; Coordinating with coaches, players, and staff to produce compelling content, including feature stories, videos, and interviews highlighting athletic achievements and events. -OR-

EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full year of appropriate graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent) in a field of study directly related to the work of this position -or- Superior Academic Achievement which included one of the following: 1) Class standing-applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average-applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society -membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. This education needs to be in a major study of physical education. -OR-

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position. To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.


GS-09:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. One year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Providing support for special events, tournaments, and championship games hosted by the institution; Creating and maintaining statistical records, historical data, and performance metrics for all athletic teams and student-athletes; Coordinating with coaches, players, and staff to produce compelling content, including feature stories, videos, and interviews highlighting athletic achievements and events; Overseeing game-day operations for media, including press box management, statistics distribution, and media credentialing; Managing and updating the institution's athletics website, social media platforms, and other digital communication channels. -OR-

EDUCATION: Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. This education needs to be in a major study of physical education. -OR-

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience when combined together meets 100% of the total requirements for the position.
