Help
  • Perform inspections, segregating and examining items of munitions and explosives that are of a questionable nature.
  • Ensure that all components, packing material, and operational equipment are certified free from explosives.
  • Classify ammunition based on supply condition codes.
  • Utilize a variety of electrical and mechanical tests to conduct specific tests.
  • Disassemble parts for inspection by using non-sparking tools.
  • Prepare reports of defects during inspections.
  • Inspect storage facilities and operation areas for safe conditions.

  • This position requires up to 50% or greater travel to escort the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile.
  • This position requires incumbent to be subject to on-call duty status as an emergency response team member for hypergolic fuel accident/incident situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain license to operate a motor vehicle, crane, forklift, and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) related material handling equipment (MHE).
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsements.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires the incumbent to meet all inspector certification requirements in accordance with regulations.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must complete and pass a pre-employment and appropriate annual Depot Medical Examination.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET Security Clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to comply with the Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent must meet the requirements of AMCR 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully meet and maintain the requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Ammunition Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision.
I have the ability to perform common tasks including knowledge of the characteristics and hazards in handling many different types of ammunition (both standard and nonstandard). Meet all inspector requirements in accordance with regulations. Perform periodic receipt, storage monitoring, pre-issue, special, and acceptance inspections on liquid fueled guided missiles and specialized containers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Duties involve walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting moderately heavy items weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally lifting items in excess of 60 pounds. Work requires manual dexterity and mental muscular coordination. Annual physical exam is required.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. Buildings have cement floors and some are unheated. Occasionally work is of a dirty, greasy nature; and there is noise from production type machinery and power conveyors. Must wear hood and be completely attired in full protective clothing, special gloves, shoes, and coveralls when exposed to missile fuel; other safety equipment includes such items as eye shield, ear plugs and aprons. Incumbent must pass physical examination for working with and handling hazardous chemicals.
