Summary

The Subsonic/Transonic Testing Branch at Langley Research Center is seeking a skilled individual to serve as an Assistant Branch Head and member of the Leadership Team responsible for organizing, staffing, planning, coordinating, developing, evaluating and directing the electrical technician work force supporting unique ground test facilities and activities across the Center. This role provides technical and supervisory leadership to sustain and enhance the center's electrical systems.

Duties

Help
  • Supervise Electrical Technician members of the Electrical Technician Group (ETG). Provide administrative and technical supervision for this work group.
  • Coordinate and direct ETG member work assignments which support the unique experimental wind tunnel facilities, and associated infrastructure, located on NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC).
  • Serve as point of contact for inquiries from LaRC personnel related to electrical tasks within the purview of the ETG. Evaluate viability of ETG performing tasks and provide project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Develop, maintain, and update an electrical workforce training and qualification program which conforms to all LaRC and National electrical codes and ensures ETG personnel receive appropriate initial, subsequent refresher, and enrichment instruction.
  • Strategically recruit, develop, and maintain a qualified work group of Electrical Technicians.
  • Collaborate with Research Directorate, Branch, and Facility leadership to develop, update, and execute strategic plans, which include facility maintenance and upgrade elements focused to sustain and advance testing efficiencies.
  • Perform work audits to verify that requirements contained in National Electrical Codes, including NFPA 70E and NFPA 70, are being followed.
  • Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:

  • Working hands-on in the electrical field, (i.e., apprenticeship or licensed electrical work covering electrical coding, troubleshooting, issue resolution, and safety);
  • Utilizing the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) concepts and practices to ensure safe equipment operations;
  • Designing, installing and troubleshooting electrical control systems which include relay logic, solid state controllers, variable frequency drives (VFD), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and PLC ladder logic programming.
