Performs and participates in a variety of diagnostic inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of associated lock and dam appurtenances.
Perform repairs and installations of hydraulic and mechanical systems, performs preventive maintenance, and diagnostic maintenance inspections.
Utilize electrical schematic drawings and traces complex circuits to diagnose malfunctions and extent of required repairs.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or rebuild electric motors, diesel and gasoline engines of associated equipment at the facility (such as large mobile cranes, generators, and air compressors).
Operate mobile land plant and floating plant equipment.
Responsible for maintaining project administrative maintenance records.
Administers and inspects service supply contracts.
Occasionally is required to perform lock and dam operator duties.
Serves as Procurement Official and Alternate Timekeeper in accordance with all established guidelines.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is subject to all the provisions of the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Pre- employment drug test required and enrollment in the army random drug testing program.
Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment will be provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
Employee may be required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
May be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.

This position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and the ability to maintain the license for the duration of employment.

Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Routinely lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders and poles. Machinery on high lift structures is large and requires the skills of a heavy construction mechanic to effect repair or replacement.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors during the day or night subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high-tension electrical equipment, on scaffolds and from slings or floating plant. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level. Incumbent is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury, or discomfort and when inside, exposure to moving machinery, electrical circuits and loud noises, and at times, dangerous icy conditions. Uses safety equipment such as life vests, protective ear devices, hard hats, hard toe shoes, respirators and protective clothing.
Education
IMTS Lock and Dam Operator Training and Certification Program
Newly-Appointed Lock and Dam Operators (LDOs) must successfully complete certification requirements before promotion to the full performance level may be effected.
Certification is not a condition of employment. However, failing to meet certification requirements could result in adverse consequences.
Certification is voluntary for Current LDOs. Although not required, current LDOs are encouraged to obtain certification as it may be helpful when seeking advancement through competitive or noncompetitive opportunities.
IMTS-Certified LDOs must successfully complete refresher training, as required, to maintain certification.
