Duties

Help
  • Plans, accomplishes, and maintains a functional shop maintenance program.
  • Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop, which is then completed by the incumbent and lower graded mechanic(s).
  • Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished.
  • Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements.
  • Devises and maintains all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance.
  • Plans, organizes and directs shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
  • Determines approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Draws, designs, tests, writes/re-writes and performs new inspections in order to prepare appropriate documents for submission.
  • Provides recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position descriptions changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.
  • Implements safety regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that other workers in the shop wear the appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow pertinent safety precautions.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Selected candidate will be required to be in a compatible military assignment prior to effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be AFSC qualified within 12 months from date of appointment.

Maximum Military Grade - MSgt (E-7)

Minimum Military Grade - TSgt (E-6)

Enlisted - AFSC 2A7X2

Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories.

WG-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 18 months specialized experience which demonstrates ability to use ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws. Knowledge of metal discontinuity, flaw detection, and metal identification. Experience in classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment. Experience preparing engine oil and other fluid samples for spectrometric oil analysis, the ability to evaluate the test results, making recommendations of engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority. Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures.

Mustpossess or have held AFSC 2A772.

Education

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
