Duties

As a GS-0401 Biologist (Cellular Assays), your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serving as an expert in providing authoritative advice and consultation for more difficult, complex, or unique tests requiring special knowledge in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology, Immunohematology, Biochemistry with responsibility for performing procedures in all aspects of multicolor flow cytometry and Advia 120 Hematology testing and developing novel multicolor flow cytometry assays to support the clinical cell processing laboratory.
  • Applying new scientific/technical developments and theories to laboratory testing, locates the appropriate reference, and then set up, applies and evaluate the procedure in question, selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of procedures including collaborative efforts and modifies methods to accommodate new cell therapies.
  • Providing education for laboratory and other healthcare professionals and others in the medical center setting including the public.
  • Writing policies, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) research reports, keeps policies and procedure manuals and research records up to date, records results in accordance with established procedures and policies.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Biologist (Cellular Assays), GS-0401 position, you must have:

A. completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;

OR

B. a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.

In addition, in order to qualify for a Biologist, GS-0401 position at the GS-12 level, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Conducting in-process and lot release testing, performing a wide variety of complex testing procedures, developing and preparing reports, preparing and reviewing policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
