This National Guard position is for a WG-4818-10 AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1729000 in FAC 32C000 and is part of the MO 139th Airlift Wing.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This position is a Temporary vacancy NTE one year in the Excepted Service. This is a bargaining position. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW.

Duties

Help
  • Ensures life support equipment meets strict airworthiness criteria and that it will sustain combat operations/readiness by inspecting, testing, and calibrating aircrew life support equipment.
  • Clears Red X symbols on aircraft forms, aircraft/aircrew electronic communications equipment, and aircraft-oxygen related systems.
  • Certifies Aircrew Life Support equipment requirements for all missions.
  • Follows Aircrew and Life Support Personnel Weapons (9MM and M-16) and Ammunition inspections and issue/turn-in procedures during operational contingencies/exercises.
  • Utilizes a variety of complex state of the art diagnostic testers/systems/specialty tools.
  • Conducts in-depth and quality control inspections to diagnose the nature and extent of equipment malfunction and to determine whether equipment may be economically repaired or declared unserviceable.
  • Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Ensures material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained.
  • Incorporates Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) field instruction for pilots/aircrew members into all survival training.
  • Determines training schedules according to course control documents, directives, policies, and instructional principles. Ensures student safety.
  • Ensures standardization and compliance with policies, directives, course control documents, Operational Risk Management (ORM) procedures, operational guidance, and instructional methodology.
  • Utilizes Equipment and Financial Processing Systems.
  • Manages a comprehensive Aircrew Life Support mobility package required to sustain bare base operations under surge type conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Under a temporary appointment, employment is subject to termination at any time.
  • This position can be filled up to four years as long as funds are available to support it.
  • In the event a permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) employee is selected, and is willing to accept the temporary appointment, that employee will relinquish permanent status.

  • This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Failure to complete management prescribed courses for full-time support personnel within the first year of employment or assignment, may be cause for reassignment or termination.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Since the position is temporary in nature, the compatibility requirements will be waived for a period of time not to exceed one year. Selecting official must verify that selected individual is currently assigned to a military unit in the Missouri National Guard and that the selection does not create grade inversion.

Title 32 National Guard employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion).

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work such as helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment, etc., ability to understand written instructions; and to use reference materials and manuals.

WG-10 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 18 months of specialized experience or training that demonstrates knowledge of aviation life support equipment. The specialized experience must also demonstrate your ability to utilize a variety of complex, state of the art, diagnostic testers, systems and special tools to test, troubleshoot, and repair equipment; read and interpret military manuals; experience in supply procedures and property accountability; collect information and present it to various sized groups; and plan a functional shop maintenance program.

Must possess or have held AFSC 1P0X1.

Education

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
