As a IT Specialist (Data Architect/Data Engineer) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Works with the ACDO to lead, plan, develop, and oversee the long-term (strategic) and the short term (tactical) technological direction of data, metadata, catalogs, and repository use in the FWS.
  • Develops and delivers long-term strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Creates short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management roadmap.
  • Identifies and facilitates implementation of effective solutions across the enterprise for addressing data related needs.
  • Develops plans for systems, hardware, and software purchases to support data technology goals; provides technical expertise, supporting of the vision for data management in the FWS, reviewing, and maintaining the planning and policy processes for data management regarding architecture; assisting and recommending technical direction for data-related functions of systems technical environment, including logical and physical data architecture, data management services, data interchange services, data-related software architectures, network services, security architecture, quality assurance, technical risk management, and configuration control.
  • Develops and gains approval for policies, procedures, plans, and standards related to enterprise data architecture, server architecture, systems software, software architecture, network services, data warehouses, quality assurance, technical risk management, and configuration management for FWS methods of collecting metadata, using catalogs, and repositories for both data and metadata.
  • Documents the data architecture and environment in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
  • Identifies and develop opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must possess Minimum Qualifications.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications for the 13-grade level: 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: experience designing, configuring, and deploying enterprise level data systems for the specific and unique requirements that come with data and use cases; experience with metadata tools, data catalog systems, and data repository maintenance and usage; experience with Amazon Web Services and other Cloud infrastructure services; experience serving as a data architect to manage and direct methods of data storage and access for a large organization and experience in database auditing, determining requirements for enterprise databases, and managing significant projects involving data creation/maintenance/storage.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

1.
