  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements (may be subject to call back or emergency overtime).

Qualifications

I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Reviewing your information technology related work to ensure you followed the instructions provided in job aids and standard operating procedures before turning it in for higher level review.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Helping end users change the desktop display configurations on their workstations.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Presenting training to end users on how to create an account and submit help tickets in a new information technology system.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Resolving common issues end users have when using an information technology system.

For GS-12: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:

  • Applying IT principles, methods, and practices.
  • Utilizing IT security principles, tools, and project management.
  • Providing Information Technology, Information Security to include installation, operations, management, and maintenance (troubleshooting) consistent with the mission, goals, and objectives of the unit's strategic plans.
  • Utilizing thorough knowledge of how to remote into the Unit IT system to provide support to assigned personnel when they have an IT issue (while absent or away from the Unit).
  • Assessing IT programs, effectiveness and investigating a variety of unusual IT issues.
  • Applying Information Technology concepts, principles, methods, and practices that will fully support the mission and program of the Unit that is sufficient to accomplish the assignment.
  • Carrying out difficult IT issues.
  • Providing advice and guidance on a wide range and verity of complex IT issues, able to interpret IT polices, standards and guidelines.
  • Utilizing overall effectiveness and efficiency of technical and automated support programs.

Additional information

Cybersecurity Workforce Designation is Information Assurance Technician (IAT) level (1). Employee shall obtain and maintain the proper certification for Cybersecurity position as required in the DoD 8570.1-M as well as Microsoft server administration certificate as MCSA.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). A BQ military spouse possesses knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies comparable to others who meet the competitive referral criteria for the specific position.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
