Duties

Help
  • Provide design and processing direction for Engineers, Industrial Specialists, Tool Designers and manufacturing staff through the use of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) models, process simulations, and detailed estimating data.
  • Monitor and prepare technical data to direct tooling designs and process work instructions in coordination with specific processing steps related to molding, melting, shake-out/de-gate, pre-heating, and forging operations.
  • Interact with customers and design activities to provide process capabilities with the goal of aligning customer requirements to inherent manufacturing capabilities.
  • Perform detailed cost estimates for casting and forging operations that includes labor, raw materials, consumable materials, with a working knowledge of both traditional and 3D tooling development capabilities.
  • Identify and recommend industrial foundry and forging equipment based upon modernization goals and individual project requirements.
  • Establish and implement new and revised production plans and procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of casting and forging chemical analysis and thermodynamics properties for the development of foundry melt recipes, pour velocities, alloy development/procurement, and material flow properties for forging.
  • Participate in initial planning discussions for projects, attend subsequent staff meetings, and participate in discussions relating to assignments.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 13 months. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 8 years. Army employees who accept a time-limited appointment (to include employees with personal competitive status) will be separated at the end of the time-limited appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. There are no return/reemployment rights to the position vacated prior to accepting the time-limited appointment. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying a wide range of technical engineering methods, techniques, and procedures relating to the manufacture of complex parts, special tooling, and fixtures for assigned areas; planning, designing, and recommending the layout of equipment to optimize production requirements; studying and analyzing techniques, general handouts, or designs and selection of appropriate materials for use in production; analyzing tasks used in the design, development, process planning in LMP/CAMMS, and production of 3D printed components and other items; and providing design coordination for engineers and technical staff through the use of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) models. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
