Duties

Help

  • Advise the Director, Office of Administrative Management, on science policy issues affecting the Institute's biomedical and behavioral research programs.
  • Provide expert guidance, advice, and assistance on major program planning and related policy issues affecting NIAMS and the national biomedical research community.
  • Perform a range of staff functions involving researching, analyzing, and planning for key policy and program decisions by the NIAMS leadership.
  • Conduct independent analyses of recommendations developed by individuals as well as groups internal and external to the NIAMS to determine the effect that such recommendations may have on NIAMS funded research and the biomedical research community and present these analyses to senior leadership.
  • Draft responses to correspondence from diverse sources on a range of subjects pertaining to the biomedical research policies, programs, and activities of the NIAMS.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the legislative process and congressional/legislative activity affecting scientific research and scientific programs.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements:
You must possess a Bachelor's, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accredited body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: coordinating with external personnel to track legislation impacting biomedical or health-related research; monitoring scientific advances and legislative developments in biomedical research; providing guidance and advice to senior leadership and expert committees concerning science policy issues affecting biomedical research; and developing reports and documents on policies, and research accomplishments related to biomedical research.
