Duties

Help
  • Receives, stores, loads, issues, and records a variety of ammunition.
  • Prepares loading and unloading planographs and storage locations.
  • Selects and assembles ammunition and explosives for issue verifying all data (Federal Stock Number (FSN), or DODIC, lot number and quantity) on hand at all times.
  • Maintains and oversees the maintenance of magazine data cards reflecting issuances, receipts, and balance on hand.
  • Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more that are higher than 168 inches.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a full background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain within 6 months of appointment and maintain appropriate Hazardous Materials and Commercial Drivers License certifications - Class A or B.
  • Pre-appointment physical required and an annual physical annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must meet requirements of the provisions of the Lautenburg Amendment of the Gun Control Act of 1968 as it pertains to the working with ammunition and explosives.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Forklift Operator License.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Munitions Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Fortlift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Munitions Handler (MVO/FLO) duties. I can repack loose ammunition and explosives into proper packing for storage of ammunition returned from training ranges to comply with safety regulations. Experience receiving, storing, loading, and recording a variety of ammunitions. Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more that are higher than 168 inches. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent may be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods at a time. Incumbent frequently lifts and carries supplies, materials, and equipment that weigh up to 70 pounds. With assistance, lifts items weighing over 70 pounds. Exerts light physical effort in operating hand and foot controls on forklift equipment.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in all climatic conditions with and in varying temperatures that may exceed 95 degrees or drop to 35 degrees while unloading various types of vehicles, and working within buildings that are not heated or cooled. Hazards include danger of accidental explosions, burns, contusions and lacerations from falling objects, metal banding, and rough surface wooden boxes and danger of mashing fingers and hands while stacking ammunition. Incumbent is required to load, unload, store and haul explosive and incendiary ordnance material other than small arms ammunition. This hazard is compensated by Environmental Differential Pay In Accordance With (IAW) Federal Personnel Manua (FPM) Suppl 532-1, Appendix J, Part II, para 3 and has not been considered in establishing the grade level of this job.
