Duties

Help
  • Provide technical support across multiple sites for available network technologies and the LAN/WAN networking infrastructure environment.
  • Develop and assist with system requirements configuration documentation, drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Contributing to the improvement of system guidelines and policies and ensuring security compliance of network systems within the agency's operational guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer reported problems and network issues and perform administrative tasks via LAN/WAN, voice, data internet connectivity, cloud, VPN, and load balancing administrative portal interfaces.
  • Prepare and present project documentation and technical presentations to project stakeholders.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Installing, configuring, supporting, analyzing, monitoring, and maintaining work concerned with on premise and cloud network services. Applies available technologies and basic management principles to adapt network services methods and procedures to a variety of infrastructure, platform, and end user services. Oversees/performs equipment installation or relocation, testing, and acceptance processes. Responds to and resolves problems with software, hardware, and systems management. Assists with defining, analyzing, and drafting network requirements, specifications, and related documentation. In addition to the above specialized experience, your resume must demonstrate one year of Information Technology (IT) related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.



Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.

Additional information

If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once permitted to return to the office building, you will be expected to do so within 30 calendar days of receiving notification. At that time, you may be eligible to continue to telework or work remotely two or more days a pay period consistent with the Census Bureau's flexible telework and remote work policies and approval from your supervisor.
