As a/an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) (Information Systems Security Officer) (Direct Hire), you will:

  • Develop, implement, and coordinate activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services, and capabilities; monitors and evaluates systems compliance with requirements.
  • Prepare and present complex reports on various subjects; conducts analyses and recommends resolution of complex issues affecting security operations and for ensuring the integration of IT programs and services.
  • Facilitate the gathering, analysis, and preservation of evidence used in the prosecution of computer crimes.
  • Provide expert technical advice, guidance, and recommendations to management and other technical specialists on critical IT security issues.

The official duty station for this position will be in Washington, District of Columbia. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal.

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-13 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-12 grade level, or equivalent, which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Experience developing policy, standards, and processes that provide for the efficient and secure operation of organization information technology (IT) systems throughout the system development lifecycle and decommission.
Examples may include:
- Interpreting and implementing the existing IT security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures; OR
- Performing vulnerability assessments of networks and systems to identify weaknesses and make recommendations to senior management for corrective actions; OR
- Developing, implementing and coordinating activities to ensure, protect and restore IT systems, services and capabilities; OR
- Coordinating implementation of computer security technical solutions or corrective actions with system stakeholders.


Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
