Duties

Help

As a DIGITAL IMAGING TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Operate one or more digitizing devices to capture image files of a range of materials, including loose and bound paper documents of all sizes, photographic prints and film, and three-dimensional objects.
  • Scan hard copies and determine page sequencing and special set-up requirements to select duplicating system settings and appropriate equipment for the job, i.e. single stitch, dual stitch, tape binding, multi-up, or signature booklet maker. Modify electronic media as necessary to ensure the best product possible.
  • Submit image files to automated image processing applications or may perform basic, predefined image processing to individual files. The technician will insert supplied metadata into software tools or into image files directly.
  • Use a variety of software applications to operate digitizing equipment, process image files, conduct quality checks, enter data, communicate with colleagues, and submit administrative information.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • The work requires some physical exertion including periods of standing, lifting moderately heavy items, or bending and reaching. The work is generally sedentary with long periods of working at a computer, but physical exertion is required to move equipment, supplies, and large or awkward original materials. Good manual dexterity is required to handle fragile materials. Excellent natural or corrected vision without color deficiencies must be maintained.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

Communicating inquiries, verbally or in writing
AND
Converting analog textual records, photographs and/or maps into digital formats
AND
Applying regulations, policies or procedures to accomplish work assignments
