The Engineering Laboratory promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology for engineered systems in ways that enhance economic security and improve quality of life.

We are looking for an Administrative Office Assistant to join our team!

If selected at the ZS-IV level, you will serve as an Administrative Office Assistant within the Engineering Laboratory to assist the Senior Management Advisor and Administrative Officers. Under general supervisory guidance, you will be expected to perform a variety of administrative duties consistent with programmatic objectives and NIST policies. This includes carrying out duties related to:

  • Budget
  • Financial management
  • Human resource tasks
  • Acquisition actions
  • Awards
  • Bankcard activities
  • Travel management
  • Guest researcher tasks
You will also be expected to routinely communicate with staff and management across the organizational unit and provide guidance to identify and resolve administrative problems. This will include supporting current policies/processes and assisting with implementing new administrative policies/processes as needed. This will require the ability to effectively problem solve and perform analyses.

If selected at the ZS-V level, you will serve as an Administrative Office Assistant within the Engineering Laboratory to assist the Senior Management Advisor and Administrative Officers. You will be expected to independently perform a variety of complex administrative duties consistent with programmatic objectives and NIST policies. This includes carrying out duties related to:

You will also be expected to serve as a resource, provide training and guidance, and routinely communicate with staff and management inside and outside the organizational unit to identify and resolve administrative problems. This will require the ability to effectively problem solve, perform analyses, and recommend solutions.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

At the ZS-IV level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 (ZS-III for NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a broad range of routine administrative support functions including serving as a timekeeper, preparing and managing travel requests, completing procurement and bankcard processing, coordinating agreements, and utilizing automated systems to complete tasks.

At the ZS-V level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 (ZS-IV for NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a broad range of routine administrative support functions including serving as a timekeeper, preparing and managing travel requests, completing procurement and bankcard processing, coordinating agreements, utilizing automated systems to complete tasks, and developing office procedures.

In addition to the above basic requirements, ALL applicants must be able to type 40 WPM.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
