Duties

Help

As a NUCLEAR WEAPONS USE CONTROL SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-14/15 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Coordinating closely with DOE/NNSA partners in the substantiation of use control measures and technologies for U.S. nuclear weapons.
  • Supporting and facilitating DoD partners in the determination and requirements for U.S. nuclear weapon military characteristics with respect to use control technologies and measures.
  • Participating in various working groups, developmental teams, higher level meetings to define and support U.S. nuclear weapon use control activities.
  • Coordinating with interagency partners to identify, request, and deploy use control coded materials.
  • Engaging with senior level managers in DoD, DOE/NNSA, DTRA, and others to clearly communicate U.S. nuclear weapon use control requirements, measures, and technologies.
  • Participating in preparing/briefing senior leadership in preparation for Nuclear Weapon Council (NWC) activities, issues, and positions.
  • Translating national level policy into actionable requirements in the nuclear weapon use control mission space.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Applying use control management requirements;
  • Installation and management of coded materials with respect to U.S. nuclear weapons in Department of Defense (DoD) or Department of Energy (DOE)/ National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA);
  • Performing weapon maintenance duties in DoD or DOE/NNSA in the continental United States or U.S. European Command area of responsibility where use control and coded materials handling is a part of regular duties;
  • Planning, organizing, managing and adjusting to multiple, fluctuating projects and assignments in order to ensure timelines/metrics are met/adjusted accordingly.

You may qualify at the GS-15, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Applying use control management requirements;
  • Installation and management of coded materials with respect to U.S. nuclear weapons in Department of Defense (DoD) or Department of Energy (DOE)/ National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA);
  • Applying an understanding of National nuclear weapon policy;
  • Performing U.S. nuclear weapons control responsibilities as related to code management systems and code control materials handling and processes;
  • Working with the Nuclear Weapon Council (NWC) organization and responsibilities;
  • Working with one or more weapon project officer groups for DoD or DOE/NNSA;
  • Planning, organizing, managing and adjusting to multiple, fluctuating projects and assignments in order to ensure timelines/metrics are met/adjusted accordingly.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
