Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:
Scheduler/Production Controller

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Plans, schedules, and controls the processing of tax data on major corporate and departmental computer systems.
  • Analyzes and evaluates requirements for computer processing by identifying work flow and sequencing, equipment and capacity requirements, and job interrelationships.
  • Reviews system reports and logs to identify scheduling conflicts, processing problems, or job failures and determines corrective action. Ensures correct restoration of data files and data bases at the proper restart point.
  • Receives program additions, deletions and changes from programmers and various external sources. Evaluates systems change requests to determine modifications to existing set-ups, schedules, run streams, and dependencies with other systems and programs.
  • May serve as OJT or formal classroom instructor.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-8 Level:You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience working with the features, characteristics, and interrelationships of multiple types of computer equipment, internal computer processes, applications and utility programs, and magnetic media; Experience using wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods, procedures, and principles to identify required actions and implement decisions; Experience working with data content and output options used in coding, developing control streams and schedules for independent and interdependent programs, or multi-program operating systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-9 Level:You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-8 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience working with the features, characteristics, and interrelationships of multiple types of computer equipment, internal computer processes, applications and utility programs, and magnetic media; Experience using a wide range of analytical and diagnostic methods and procedures to identify required actions and implement decisions; Experience working with data content and output options used in coding, developing control streams and schedules for independent and interdependent programs, or multi-program operating systems; Experience analyzing data to identify problems encountered on major computer systems and the hardware/software programs monitored and experience in coordination, control, scheduling, and direct operational support for several large capacity computer systems.

MEET TIME IN GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT: You must meet applicable TIG requirements to be considered eligible. To meet TIG for positions above the GS-05 grade level, you must have served at least one year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for the position you are applying to. Advancement to positions up to GS-05 is permitted if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade held within the preceding 52 weeks.

AND

TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. For this requirement, a competitive appointment is one where you applied to and were appointed from an announcement open to "All US Citizens".

Education

A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.   • Tour of Duty Detroit: Days, M-F 7:30am-4:00pm, Afternoons, M-F 3:30pm-12:00am, Midnights, M-F 11:30pm-8:00am, May be required to work holidays and weekends, depending on the workload.
  • Tour of Duty Ogden: Days, M-F 6:30am-3:00pm, Afternoons, S-Sat 2:30pm-11:00pm, days off will be determined at the time of selection. Midnights, S-TH 10:30pm-7:00am,
    May be required to work holidays and weekends, depending, on the workload.
  • This is a seasonal position. Season is from 8-10 months.
