Summary

This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. Duties

Help

As a Vice President of Academic Affairs GS-1701-15, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Serves as the conduit between Faculty Senate and Academics to ensure for shared governance practices related to agenda items that are either Academic and/or Policy related decision topics.
  • Serves as the expert advisor to the President, and as such provides the President with authoritative information, alternatives and recommendations on the current and long-range plans pertaining to academic programs.
  • Support and share responsibility with the President for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling all academic extension and research programs of Haskell.
  • Review programs and curricula to ensure that they remain current, provide required prerequisites of universities, and satisfy accreditation standards; direct the development of curricula and course modifications.
  • Reviews requests related to funding and operational requirements and develops a comprehensive budget plan for Academics with justification and recommendations for the President's consideration.
  • Establish policy and provide direction, guidance, and managerial supervision.
  • Represents Haskell and the President as an expert on academic programs on various committee and boards.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.-or-

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

GS-15: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service. Examples include: serving as a conduit between Faculty Senate and Academics to ensure for shared governance practices related to agenda items that are either Academic and/or Policy related decision topics; providing authoritative information alternatives and recommendations pertaining to academic programs; serving as an academic dean or administrator in a college or university academic program with overall responsibility for the leadership, management, planning, organizing, and directing of all operations, faculty, staff and programs, including budget planning and management, grants oversight and use of shared governance; administrative experience in serving as an academic dean in a tribal college and experience teaching in a college or university; direct experience in a college or university service as a lead or author for a self-study to fulfill accreditation requirements of national accrediting bodies, such as Higher Learning Commission, compliance and fulfilling all requirements as well as legal and regulatory requirements for all degree offering programs; extensive experience in authoring professional and key institutional documents as a lead author, communication of findings with a range of education stakeholders, including researching, interpreting, analyzing data and finding, and applying the proper guidelines, policies and procedures; direct experience in implementing, applying and evaluations assessment in a college setting. In addition, must have at least 1 year of teaching experience in higher education.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
