Help
  • Serves as a natural resources management staff specialist for a major water resource project.
  • Assists in the management, direction, and control of all aspects of the natural resources and recreation management including planning, developing, coordinating and providing advice.
  • Prepares and/or works with the project staff in the preparation of various planning documents for the Project Office.
  • Oversees the conservation, preservation, restoration, and use of all project natural and cultural resources.
  • Acts as the chief advisor to the Operations Project Manager concerning natural resources conservation matters.
  • Assures the protection of cultural resources by exclusion of the public or formal protection measures.
  • Ensures the program adequately protects resources while complying with the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, the Endangered Species Act and other Federal laws.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Serves as an incidental motor vehicle operator. Operates an automobile or light truck to accomplish assigned duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Specialized expereinceGS-11: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes: Experience applying regulations and policies for recreation and natural resources work such as public land use and conservation, protection of natural resources, wildlife habitat, recreation, and/or soil and water quality issues.


Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist 0401 Series:

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
