Duties

Help
  • Render technical analysis, evaluation, and advice and serves as an expert on communications.
  • Apply an expert knowledge of communications-related concepts, principles, methods, practices, and related regulations and standards.
  • Monitor, analyze, review and report on effectiveness of messaging and social media campaigns.
  • Provide public information on the Web and Social Media, ensuring that information is releasable within the guidelines of Department of Defense?s regulations and maintains operational security.
  • Coordinate overall elements of social media posts, including graphics and videos, to ensure consistency of messaging and effectiveness of communications from a variety of sources.
  • Establish performance objectives and conducts performance reviews of subordinates.
  • Identify developmental and training needs of employees; provides and/or arrange for needed development and training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes serving both internal and external communication needs for an organization producing effects-based themes and messages; acting as a liaison with print and broadcast media representatives, community leaders, and public interest organizations for a large organization; developing and writing a variety of news releases, talking points, comments, or statements that convey information and clarify agency policies to groups of interest; participating in public speaking engagements, meetings, public relations events, answering inquiries from the media and public, and disseminating information to various social media organizations/venues, etc; and operating in crisis situations and providing effective media response/engagement for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12)

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement.
