Duties

Help

As an Information Technology Specialist at the GS-2210-9/11, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Implements and coordinates activities designed to protect and restore IT systems, services and capabilities.
  • Provides advice and guidance in implementing security policies and procedures designed to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems, networks, and data.
  • Supports ODR&R's field response remotely and within the Center. Establishes remote location communication, user remote access, laptop configuration, and system troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Provides support in a manner that minimizes interruptions in customer's ability to carry out critical business activities.
  • Assists network administrator by participating in configuration of switches and routers; monitoring network performance; performing various diagnostics; analyzing network traffic patterns; and installing software fixes and upgrades.
  • Participates in coordinating wide area networking with Central Office IT staff, including installation and configuration of wide area networking hardware and software and monitoring the integration of existing Local Area Network (LAN) with Wide Area Network (WAN).

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • This position is not included in a bargaining unit.
  • The salary range above reflects the employee's base salary. Locality Pay will be added based on the location of the employee's residence.
  • Your primary residence is considered your official duty station.
  • The Term Appointment does not confer competitive status, reinstatement rights, or eligibility for non-competitive conversion to a permanent job to the individual(s) selected. You may be promoted or reassigned to another term position within SBA's Office of Disaster Assistance; however, you may not be non-competitively appointed to another Federal position. You will be given an initial Term Appointment lasting more than 1 year, but not more than 4 years. If all other conditions of employment are met, this appointment may be extended, up to a total of four (4) years in increments determined by SBA.
  • If selected, employees work on an intermittent (on-call) work schedule. This means that employees are in a pay and duty status only when activated to respond to workload needs, especially in response to heightened disaster activity. When no longer needed, employees return to a non-pay status until the next event necessitates additional staff.
  • However, depending on the workload and/or level of disaster activity, your work schedule may be changed to full-time. Subsequently, if the workload decreases, your work schedule may be changed back to intermittent.
  • Mandatory Overtime: In order to respond quickly and efficiently to disaster victims, substantial compensated overtime hours may be required while on assignment (up to seven days a week and ten to fourteen hours a day).
  • A valid driver's license may be required.
TRAVEL STATEMENT- You may be required to travel to a disaster site during increased disaster activity for extended periods with little or no advanced notice. If so, you may encounter hazardous working and/or living conditions; i.e., no water or electricity and/or minimal lodging facilities. Travel expenses are compensated based on SBA policy and Federal regulations.

  • Physical Demands: You must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and job requires standing, stooping, and bending for extended periods of time to set up and take down computer stations.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed below.

Experience:
To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.

GS-09: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Implementing IT security requirements, policies, and procedures designed to protect the integrity and vulnerability of systems, networks, and specifically including the protection of Personal Identifiable Information (PII), both internal and external to the organization; and
  • Configuring and troubleshooting IT hardware, software, and networking technologies in a variety of local and/or remote locations; and
  • Setting up, configuring and supporting workstations using Windows 10 in an enterprise WAN, supporting Microsoft Cloud based applications (Office 365, SharePoint, or OneDrive), and supporting networks (wired and wireless) that support multiple users..
GS-11: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Implementing IT security requirements, policies, and procedures designed to protect the integrity and vulnerability of systems, networks, and data including Personal Identifiable Information (PII); and
  • Configuring and troubleshooting IT hardware, software, and networking technologies in a variety of local and/or remote locations; and
  • Advanced experience in performing setup, configuring and managing workstations using Windows Pro or Enterprise (7, 8 or 10) on a WAN, supporting Microsoft cloud based applications (Office 365, SharePoint, or OneDrive), and designing, building and supporting networks (wired and wireless) that support 5+ users.

Education

If qualifying based on education, you must submit transcripts by the closing date of this announcement or you will not be found eligible.

GS-09: Master's degree or equivalent, in a related field, from an accredited college or university or two full years (36 semester hours or equivalent) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field.

GS-11: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree, in a related field, from an accredited college or university or three full years (54 semester hours or equivalent) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field.

A combination of experience and education as indicated above.
