This position is located in the Office of Field Operations, Denver Field Division, Helena II (IO) FOin Helena, Montana.

NOTE: Must possess a valid driver's license and be capable of operating a motor vehicle.

The incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, supervising and coordinating ATF's industry operations programs and personnel within a designated geographical area. Serves as an expert advisor to the direct of industry operations (DIO) for the assigned area and responds to the most complex issues/matters pertaining to regulatory field investigations and inspections. Serves as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies, industry representatives, officials of State and other Federal agencies, and public interest groups within the assigned geographical area.

Duties may include:

  • Serves as the area supervisor that oversees the work of industry operations investigators (IOls) conducting complex, sensitive, and far-reaching investigations/inspections of firearms licenses and explosives licenses and permittees.
  • Confers with Field Division management. Bureau Headquarters personnel, other Area Supervisors, and officials of other government agencies with regard to issues or changes in legislation that affect assigned jurisdiction.
  • Evaluates the content of new or modified legislation for projected impact on Industry Operations programs.
  • Makes Congressional contacts, speeches, and presentations to civic, trade and industry organizations, conducts seminars on the latest regulatory matters, and confers with members of national legislative bodies, applicants for licenses and permits, industry members, the media, and interest groups.
  • Develops annual area work plans and an area travel budget to accomplish set goals. Coordinates area assessments for planning activities.

Qualifications

To qualify for 14, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS 13.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized Experience is:

  • Independently providing expertise on intelligence related issues in order to plan, analyze, identify problems and initiate solutions; AND
  • Performing supervisory duties to facilitate guidance and foster performance; AND
  • Expert knowledge of intelligence collection, analysis, intelligence writing and production; AND
  • Collecting, processing, formatting, storing, analyzing, and disseminating intelligence products and information; AND
  • Writing, briefing, mentoring, and training others.
