This position is with the Western Army Aviation Training Site (WAATS) located in Red Rock, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to provide recurring technical support regarding ground, explosive safety, and occupational health.

  • ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the WAATS.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver?s license.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain secret security clearance within one year of appointment.

Enlisted: E4/CPL-E6/SSG
Warrant Officer: WO1/Warrant Officer 1-CW3/Chief Warrant Officer 3
Officer: O1/2LT-O3/CPT

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: All GS-0018 series personnel must be certified at the next higher level before being eligible for that level and must have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 24 months performing periodic onsite surveys, to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards. Prepared or revised safety instructions and guides. Advised personnel of appropriate safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes which may cause mishaps. Investigated mishaps, obtained statements from witnesses, and photographed mishap scenes. Recorded circumstances of mishaps and extent of injuries, prepared final report(s) of findings with recommendations to correct the unsafe acts or conditions which caused injuries or property damage.

Education

You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. To receive credit for Education, you must provide documentation of proof that you meet the Education requirements for this position.

1. Knowledge of occupational safety and health principles, practices, procedures, regulations, standards, and methods.

2. Knowledge of work processes, methods, techniques, and procedures to identify, explain, and correct unsafe conditions in diversified environments.

3. Knowledge of industrial work processes, materials handling techniques, motor vehicle maintenance practices, compressed gases, shop machinery design, and industrial fire hazards.

4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

5. Knowledge of ARNG, OSHA, and DOD directives.
