Duties

As a Accounting Technician (Grants) GS-0525-8, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Responsible for the disbursement of student funds received by the university.
  • Review accounts payable documents to verify accounting data to be inputted into the BIE Accounting System (FBMS).
  • Review travel vouchers and notify offices of any corrections required prior to final approval.
  • Review/maintain the Budget Monitoring File daily (including Grants) for all divisions and assign purchase requisition number to all purchase requests.
  • Examine accounting documents and ensure that each has appropriate approvals, correct data, and proper appropriation citation.
  • Review records and source documents to detect and correct erroneous or questionable data and ensure all discrepancies are verified and corrected in a timely manner.
  • Meet with all departments/divisions on a monthly basis and provide them a detailed statement with a forecasted spending plan.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

GS-8: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Examples include: Possess knowledge of accounting, budgetary, and other financial activity to include regulations, policies and, procedures related to the specific financial management functions; Fund Reconciliation and Reporting; Grant Management; Billing/collection entries using the Comprehensive Academic Management System (CAMS).

Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required.
