Duties

Help
  • Plans and executes large scale collaborative neighborhood and health research projects involving multiple disciplines.
  • Leads complex geospatial analysis on drawing on and integrating multiple data sources and using geographic information system (GIS) and R software, taking advantage of Python programming to automate data tasks and enhance rigor and reproducibility.
  • Disseminates original empirical or theoretical research as first author through scientific publications (e.g., journal articles, policy briefs) and presentations. Also contributes as co-author to scientific publications and presentations.
  • Oversees post-doctoral fellows and research fellows at any level (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, PhD) on statistical analysis, geospatial analysis, environmental measurement, and data management.
  • Leads complex statistical analysis combining multiple sources of intensive longitudinal data from wearable sensors with other data derived from questionnaires and health metrics.
  • Leads the management and integration of data from wearable sensors including by developing applications.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
You must meet at least one of the following basic Office of Personnel Management prescribed occupational series requirements (GS-601, GS-1301, or GS-1501) described in the following questions. You do not need to meet the requirements for all three occupational series. All education, unless completed outside the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.

For the 0601 Geospatial Health Data Analyst: In order to qualify for the Geospatial Health Data Analyst GS-601 position, you must:
A. possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position.

For the GS-1301 Geospatial Health Data Analyst): In order to qualify for the Geospatial Health Data Analyst GS 1301 position, you must:
A. possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. possess a combination of education (at least 24 semester hours) and additional appropriate/related experience that is the equivalent to a major in physical science, engineering, or mathematics.

For the GS-1501Geospatial Health Data Analyst: In order to qualify for the Geospatial Health Data Analyst GS-1501 position, you must:
A. Possess a degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
OR
B. possess a combination of education and experience that is the equivalent to a major field of study as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.

Additional Qualification Requirements:

In addition, in order to qualify for the Geospatial Health Data Analyst, GS- 0601, 1301, and 1501, at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1. Conducting and publishing multidisciplinary (e.g., health, geospatial) research in a peer-reviewed journal under the direction of a principal investigator or senior-level researcher. 2. Conducting integrated/advanced statistical analysis (e.g., Factor Analysis, Structural Equation Modeling) of longitudinal geospatial data from wearable sensors, fixed weather stations, and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) surveys under the direction of a principal investigator or senior researcher. 3. Writing or modifying codes using statistical software language (e.g., R, Python) for data cleaning, standardization, analysis, and retrieval. 4. Presenting research at conferences and other scientific meetings/events (e.g., symposiums). AND 5. Assisting with training sessions for research fellows in statistical/geospatial analysis, health (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) research, environmental measurement, and/or data management topics.

In addition, in order to qualify for the Geospatial Health Data Analyst, GS- 0601, 1301, and 1501, at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector , performing the following types of tasks: 1. Leading multidisciplinary (e.g., health, geospatial) research teams conducting and publishing research in a peer-reviewed journal. 2. Leading researchers conducting integrated/advanced statistical analysis (e.g., Factor Analysis, Structural Equation Modeling) of longitudinal geospatial data from wearable sensors, fixed weather stations, and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) surveys. 3. Writing codes using statistical software language (e.g., R, Python) for data cleaning, standardization, analysis, and retrieval. 4. Leading research presentations at health-related (e.g., biomedical, behavioral) conferences and other scientific meetings/events (e.g., symposiums). AND 5.
