Duties

As a Director of Residential Services GS-0301-12, your typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Direct supervisor for 1-3 Supervisory College Resident Assistants, who in turn supervise 15-30 College Resident Assistants. Reviews staff schedules to ensure 24-hour staffing in each building when classes are in session. Plans and provides training for residence hall staff members in areas such as safety, basic first aid, crisis intervention, non-therapeutic counseling, suicide prevention, crime prevention, and conflict mediation.
  • Oversees student room assignments and changes. Updates Housing Handbook and communicates policies to residents regarding safety, allowed and prohibited items and activities, visitation, move-in and move-out procedures, etc.
  • Investigates incidents in the residence halls, writes reports on them, and follows up with conduct or mental health referrals as needed.
  • Participates in meetings of Haskell administrators to explain Housing policies and procedures and to coordinate joint administrative policy and scheduling. Responsible for Housing budget and related reports.
  • Performs room and building inspections and coordinates with the Facilities Department to ensure that building maintenance and repairs are completed.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

GS-12: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that includes: provide supervisory and personnel management skills in a Residential Life Program, develop, implement, and evaluate student programs at a university/college level; demonstrate leadership working with university/college students, staff, and faculty; work with complex budget planning and fiscal management, and provide professional judgment in sensitive situations and problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT and Other significant information:

The position is designated as an Occasional Driver IAW Motor Vehicle Operator - Indian Affairs Policy to drive a motor vehicle to conduct business at field locations. Travel involves transit via airplane and motor vehicle.

The position is required to work other than normal hours as necessary to handle emergency situations or peak workloads.

The position requires the incumbents to maintain annual certifications for First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Appropriately handles and safeguards sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required.
