This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Inspection Division, Office of Inspections, Audit Unit (INSA).

This position(s) primary purpose is to support the Inspection Division (IG), Office of Inspections (IN), Inspection Support Section (INS), Audit Unit (INSA). Serves as a senior Auditor with responsibility to conduct and complete Performance, Financial and Attestation Audit assignments throughout DEA.

As an Auditor your typical work assignments may include:
  • Performing objective analysis and systematic evaluation assignments to provide independent assessments of the performance of DEA organizations, its programs, activities, and/or functions by conducting complete or segments of audits of internal programs, special reviews, and on­site inspections.
  • Developing and/or participating in the development of proposals for audits, surveys, special reviews, programs, functions and systems.
  • Planning, conducting, and reporting on the audit and special reviews of financial programs and/or the integrated financial operations and other types of financial information for organizations throughout DEA, its programs, activities, and functions.
  • Developing audit approaches and formulating plans for work assignments.
  • Developing working papers and preparing or assessing findings for consolidation into the final audit report.
  • Performing the most complex analysis and evaluations related to all aspects of accounting, management control and risk management.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Basic Requirement AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.

Basic Requirement:(1) Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.
OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following:

  1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
  2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
  3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
You must submit transcripts as proof of education or of certification to be considered for this position.Specialized Experience: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify for the GS-12 position, one year of specialized experience for this position includes applying knowledge of practices, methods and techniques of accounting and auditing principles and concepts required to independently perform an audit, special review, or on-site inspection; conducts research in preparation for an audit, special review and on-site inspection, including laws, directives, regulations, contracts and agreements.

To qualify for the GS-13 position, one year of specialized experience for this position includes GS12: Applying theory, concepts and practices of accounting and auditing to ensure quality work when conducting audit reviews; analyze data, draw conclusions and recommend corrective action, analyze data exploited from a United Financial Management System (UFMS) and/or equivalent financial data retrieval systems; and work as an audit team member ensuring overall project is accomplished
