Duties

Help
  • You will assist in the development of work for the purpose of contract formalization and implementation of natural resources projects to ensure mission requirements are met and compliant with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • You will assist in conducting wildlife and vegetation surveys/studies and record wildlife activity in the field.
  • You will develop various bulletins, orders or briefings for publication or oral presentation.
  • You will assist in the preparation of in-house studies, written reports, charts, graphs, and maps for environmental assessments and impact statements, survey reports, review planning and design documentation.
  • You will assist in the management of natural resource projects.

  • The incumbent may be exposed to poisonous snakes and insects. Outdoor work will involve extremes of heat and cold in dry dusty conditions. Most vehicular travel in training areas is through terrain potentially containing unexploded ordnance.

Qualifications

GS-08:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting other natural resources staff with environmental compliance investigations, species surveys, and data collection and input into Geographical Information Systems (GIS) AND providing monitoring support for field operations.

GS-07:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting other natural resources staff with environmental compliance investigations, species surveys, and data collection and input into Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:

For GS-07:

Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.

One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
