Duties

Help
  • Assists a higher graded specialist with developing, coordinating, controlling, and conducting background investigations of assigned personnel to the National Institutes of Health.
  • Assists in conducting criminal background checks on applicants requesting access to NIH campuses and leased facilitates.
  • Advises management and recommends proper courses of action to resolve complex security issues as it relates to an individuals background check and access control.
  • Ensures compliance with various personnel security laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to position sensitivity levels.
  • Complies with personnel security laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to position sensitivity levels.
  • Evaluates the authenticity and veracity of applicant's documents, i.e., proof of citizenship, birth certificates and/or naturalization certificates using a tracking System.

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • Pre-employment and/or random drug and alcohol testing is required for this position.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a background security investigation.
  • The selectee must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle license.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-09 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:

A. Have completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR

B. Have at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: conducting background investigations for employees and applicants; preparing reports and investigative packets; determining position sensitivity designations for positions; preparing documentation for obtaining security clearances; and coordinating investigations and security issues with other organizations or officials.

OR

C. A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
