Help

This position is located with the Combined Surface Maintenance Shop (CSMS) in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of the work is to analyze and evaluate maintenance operations, production, and procedures; and make recommendations for improvement with regards to safety, occupational health, and hazardous waste management programs. This requires practical knowledge of, and skill in applying, principles, concepts, and methods of the programs to surface maintenance equipment, facilities, and service operations.

  • ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS).
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain secret security clearance within one year of appointment.
  • Must have a valid state driver?s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • Applicants must be able to gain and maintain access to all required systems and the AZ-ARNG Network.

Qualifications

Military Grades:
Enlisted: SPC/CPL/E4-SGM/CSM/E9
Warrant Officer Candidate (WOC)
Warrant Officer: Warrant Officer 1 (WO1)- Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3)

Compatible Military Assignments:
(Must possess or be able to qualify for)
Enlisted MOS: 88, 91, 92, 94 Series
Warrant Officer MOS: 880, 910, 920, 940 Series

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 24 months experience in applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facility, or service operations sufficient in designing projects or planning assignments. Experience using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc. Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of ground equipment maintenance operations and procedures and the applicable safety, occupational health, and hazardous waste programs that influence maintenance management decisions. Experience in implementing or overseeing a safety, occupational health, or hazardous waste program for a maintenance facility. Experience using computer and automation systems.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Knowledge of and ability to analyze safety, occupational health, hazardous waste and physical security inspection or evaluation results, assist shop leadership in developing action plans to correct short falls and deficiencies and monitor implementation. Aids the shop supervisor(s) in coordinating with other organizations in conflict resolution.

2. Comprehensive knowledge of program management requirements for safety, occupational health, physical security, and hazardous material and waste management. Ability to monitor the programs by scheduling and conducting periodic evaluations to ensure shop operations and maintenance tasks are compliant. Ability to identify deficient areas, trends, and make recommendations.

3. Ability to research and interpret regulations governing safety, occupational health, and hazardous waste programs in order to develop policy, procedure, or training applicable to facility maintenance operations. Ability to keep current on regulations and disseminate changes to program requirement(s) to the shop leadership to ensure timely adherence to policy.

4. Ability to disseminate information to shop leadership and assist in improving, correcting, and/or standardizing procedures and best practices for adherence to regulations governing safety, occupational health, physical security, and hazardous waste programs. Ability to make recommendation for improving existing practices or establishing new procedure to ensure maintenance tasks and support operations performed meet or exceed regulatory requirements for those programs.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Proficient in Microsoft applications. Ability to facilitate and/or offer classroom training, as needed.

6. Ability to work independently on projects and tasks assigned by the supervisor and meet deadlines for completion of work, provide acceptable results, and conformance to overall requirements and objectives.
