RELOCATION STATEMENT: For a current promotion eligible NCUA employee, your relocation expenses may be authorized in accordance with NCUA's relocation policies if you are moving from a state NOT in the Southern Region states listed below, to a duty station near a major airport in a Southern Region state. Relocation to a contiguous state is excluded.

DUTY STATION STATEMENT: Location is negotiable within commuting distance of a major airport within the continental Southern Region. For NCUA employees currently located in one of the states listed below, your duty station will not change.

Southern Region continental states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

As a Credit Union Examiner) Problem Case Officer, you will:

  • Supervise the examination of the Region's most critical- and problem-case credit unions
  • Lead a team determining the overall safety and soundness of credit unions and their risk management processes (e.g., loans, budget, profitability, accounting, IT security, investments, etc.)
  • Negotiate with officials of problem case credit unions and state supervisory authorities to ensure corrective actions are implemented
  • Oversee the implementation of Administrative Actions (e.g, conservatorship, cease and desist orders, suspension or removal or officials, termination of insurance, etc.)
  • Provide technical guidance to other NCUA personnel or credit union staff while working with critical cases

Qualifications

Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

To qualify at the CU-13 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-12 level in federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include the following activities: 1) examining the overall safety and soundness of credit unions or other federally insured depository institutions; 2) analyzing financial statements and statistical reports to identify trends in credit union or other federally insured depository institution financial data; and 3) negotiating findings with credit union or other federally insured depository institution management.

To qualify at the CU-14 level, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-13 level in federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include the following activities: 1) leading a team in the examination of critical- and problem-case credit unions or federally insured depository institutions with CAMEL ratings of 3, 4, or 5, or those in danger of failure due to deteriorating financial conditions; 2) analyzing financial statements and statistical reports to identify trends in federally insured depository institutions' financial data; 3) determining the soundness of risk management processes of credit unions or other federally insured depository institutions; 4) negotiating with officials and management of credit unions or other federally insured depository institutions to ensure corrective or administrative actions are implemented to sustain the viability of the institution; and 5) implementing administrative actions.

SALARY: Pay will be set using NCUA's compensation policy. Actual salary will be determined upon the location of the selectee and the applicable locality pay, per the NCUA's CU pay table, will be applied. The locality rates, by location, can be found on the NCUA Careers webpage under the NCUA CU Pay Structure.
