Duties

Help
  • Provides technical assistance and support on computer and other IT related problems.
  • Troubleshoots and installs a variety of internal and external devices.
  • Serves as assistant Telecommunications Control Officer to the senior BN IT Specialist with the management and accountability of mobile IT communications devices within the organization.
  • Provides orientation and training for all users to learn and understand the information and communications systems utilized within the command supporting operational requirements with minimal oversight and distractions of co-workers.
  • Performs a variety of telecommunication control functions.
  • Manage user accounts required for all personnel assigned to the organization.
  • Confers with the senior BN IT Specialist on actions to ensure compliance with regulatory guidance, formal publications and USAREC command policies.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 35% of the time.
  • Must meet the requirements outlined in the Department of Defense Directive 8140.01 Cyberspace Workforce Management, August 11, 2015, and DoD Publication 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience with performing or assisting with performing troubleshooting IT hardware and software; assisting higher level IT support resolving servers and data processing issues, working with multiple workstations, Local Area Network, network devices and providing IT support to an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Computer Sciences.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

If qualifying using specialized experience at any grade level your experience must contains the following characteristics.1. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????07).
